GOVTRUST Symposium "Trust and the Governance of Technology"

On 17 Feb 2022, the interdisciplinary GOVTRUST Centre of Excellence (University of Antwerp, Belgium) organises its second (online) Annual Symposium on "Trust and the Governance of Technology”. It will be discussed the key role of trust in harnessing the transformative potential of digital technologies for governments and citizens alike.

During the Symposium, members of the GOVTRUST consortium and guest speakers will present recent work on the topic of trust and technology.

S. Shyam Sundar (Media Effects Research Laboratory and Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence, Penn State) will deliver a keynote on social and psychological effects of human-computer interaction and computer-mediated communication, with a special focus on trust and the rise of machine agency.

Michel Walrave (GOVTRUST) explains what went wrong with the COVID-19 contact tracing technology.

Katleen Gabriels (Department of Philosophy, Maastricht University) raises ethical questions about computer technologies for health tracking.

Bjorn Kleizen (GOVTRUST) discusses how citizens trust or mistrust governmental AI projects.

Balázs Bodó (Institute for Information Law, University of Amsterdam) talks about the commodification of trust in relation to technology.
